Visualization of data on surplus drugs in Greece

The Greek Ministry of Health estimates that every year, one billion euros worth of medicines end up in the trash. Many of the drugs that end up in landfills and sewers are dangerous to the environment and public health as they return to the human body through the food chain. In Greece there is a lack of an organized system for the collection and management of home remedies. The technological non-profit organization GIVMED, in its effort to help address the problem, has developed a network of 130 charities throughout Greece that have surplus drugs.

The aim of the challenge is to visualize this data on a geographical map of Greece, in order to facilitate the understanding of the data by the general public and institutions that are interested in the types of drugs that are in surplus. A web solution was designed to geopgraphicall visualise where medicine were available for collection.

Challenge Solutions:

MedFind- A website has been created to display medical data on a geographical map of Greece. Both teams used WordPress, an open source content management system (CMS), to build their websites. Also a free version of the WP Google maps plugin was used by both teams to display medical data on google map markers.

In terms of design, one team had a more corporate presentation type while the other team had a different approach with a modern look and funny marketing terms, but some sections were off subject.
